Traffic

I'm almost famous.

Having finally worked out how to find out my stats (there's a button called Stats), I can now see how I'm doing.

The stats give me two figures, visitors and page views. If you check me in the morning and read a post, then come back in the evening and read two more, that counts as one visitor, and three page views. If you come back the next day, you count as a visitor again. I can see the last few days, and the last six months.

And it was dire for a while. Back in February, I got a total of 20 different readers. It turns out that's because I only launched on February 26, but throughout March and April I was only getting four or five readers a day.

I've been building up month by month though. In August I had 1663 visitors, which is 53 a day. If two more of you had come I'd have had 1665, which was the year of the Great Plague. You could have made the effort, really.

Yesterday, I emailed Pharyngula about my little spat with the Righteous Response Squad, and he did a post about it. He's a proper grown-up with tens of thousands of hits a day, and lots of them came to see me.  In the end I had 460 visitors, and 161 of them have come back today.

Which is why it's particularly unfortunate that I'm having a writer's block kind of a day. Honestly, folks, I'm quite amusing most of the time. Look at all my lovely tags. I've even done categories. Please don't leave me alone again, shouting into the void, with no-one to talk to but my friends.

Better blog day 5

by secback @ Wednesday, Sep. 05, 2007 - 12:46:30

Today's task is from the August 6th entry. I have to EMAIL AN OLD TIMER READER. Jeff is a reader and an old timer, so I'll email him.

It says of regular readers that their comments are actually content that is being added to your blog, their involvement brings a sense of community and makes it a more vibrant place and their input adds to the knowledge base of your blog. I thought my blog was based on sarcasm and all the other low forms of wit, but apparently my purposes are higher than I'd ever realised.

Is this whole thing getting a bit boring? I think I should be told.

Andrew freaking Keen

I wrote about him here (never did get round to that review). Now he's coming to Bristol, and he's at the Watershed on Friday night at 7:00. Let's all go and throw things. Ooh, it's like Siouxsie Sioux taunting Bill Grundy. Bet Grundy wouldn't have propositioned me though.
