My seafood surprise

by secback @ Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 - 23:55:45

Seen on a sandwich box in my local cafe: dolphin, friendly tuna, lettuce and sweetcorn. The devil's in the detail, as usual. For a minute I thought the cafe had been taken over by the Duke of Edinburgh, but then I noticed it was still pleasant and well run.

I put the sandwich back, obviously. Who wants to eat boring old tuna? Especially if you can't be sure it's friendly. They can give you a nasty little nip, can tuna.

But it set me thinking. Have any of you actually eaten dolphin? What was it like? How about whale?

Food is like art, I know what I like, and what I like is normal food (teehee). When my taste buds yearn for something exotic and different, I let them vicariously check out the offerings at Zimmern: http://www.andrewzimmern.com/

I finally stumbled upon an article about football that did that make me nod off to sleep:

Perhaps you could write a post about some of the points made in the article?

Once, in China, we dined at a snake restaurant, in which there was a huge tank, zoo-style, full of live snakes. The more affluent diners would choose their snake, and have it prepared in their favourite style. We went for the generic snake stew, in which the snake tasted of, well, chicken. I bet dolphin tastes of chicken too...

Don't think I could eat dolphin, no. Or whale. Well, not a whole one.

Your comment reminded me of the time Phil the Greek visited Temple Meads railway station, and the cafe next door was rather enterprisingly serving Duke of Edinburgers.

I used to know people with names like Phil the Greek. Not him though.

There used to be a Roman Emperor called Philip, who was born in Syria, and history actually knows him as Philip the Arab. The name Philip is from the Greek philos hippoi, meaning lover of horses. Though not in the Biblical sense, obviously.

We from the One Sorry Blog Scrabble Sweepstakes ate guinea pig while schlepping through Cuzco, Peru. It was baked in a clay oven and damn tasty.

Cayman, too, in Argentina. These small crocodiles taste like a cross between chicken and fish.

Crocodile and guinea pig! Best yet.

When's the Scrabble sweepstake coming back?
